The loss of a beloved animal companion can be one of the most devastating losses we can experience – No, you are not crazy. Yes, this deep grief is normal. Our worlds revolve around the 4 legged beings that live with us and when one of them passes, it can be incredibly disorienting. Our bonds with them are often less complicated and more purely unconditional than are our human ones. This relationship may be the only place we allow our tender hearts to be open and vulnerable. Grief has its own process, its own time line. You do not have to do this alone. Many individuals seek individual and couple therapy during the adjustment period after a pet dies. It can be a wise choice.
